The developer who recently purchased this apartment approached us with a question: How could he make better use of the unused carpark below the residential building above. Planning approval was achieved and the carpark space was then converted into two, one bedroom apartments. Although the space was being used for storage it was not best suited to the parking of cars. This new use benefited the owner with an additional income stream and also put two newly refurbished apartments onto the market providing much need accommodation.

This upgrade job required the original concrete shell of the existing carpark to be connected to all utilities and the apartments built out and to comply with all building regulation approved documents including resistance to the passage of sound. Approved document E1 states that “Dwelling houses, flats and rooms for residential purposes shall be designed and constructed in such a way that they provide reasonable resistance to sound from other parts of the same building and from adjoining buildings”.

Fitted kitchen and appliances of the new apartment

Within days of completion both of these newly created apartments where being used. Feed back from the owner of the block said the new occupants where very happy to be tenants in these apartments. An upgrade job well done.
